Biographical / Historical
George Albert Llano (b. November 22, 1911, Havana, Cuba-d. February 2003), specialist in lichenology, polar vegetation, and shark attack survival techniques, was Acting Chief Scientist and Program Manager of Polar Biology and Medicine for the Office of Polar Programs at the National Science Foundation. During his career he held posts at the Smithsonian Institution, the U.S. National Committee for the International Geophysical Year in Antarctica, and the Library of Congress, and conducted field studies in Arctic Alaska and the Aleutians, northern Scandinavia, Antarctica, and Panama.
