Content Description
This collection contains Robert F. Martin’s handwritten notes (3 pieces) about the life of Thomas Walter (1740–1789) and his Flora Caroliniana (London, J. Fraser, 1788; HI call no. DS30 W234F); on “Walter names in Small” (9 pieces); and on modern names for Walter’s species in the Flora, with indications of which of Walter’s names were new genera and species (ca.100 pieces). Also found here are letters (6 items, some photocopies, 1938–1939), mainly from Walter’s great-granddaughter Anne A. Porcher of Pinopolis, South Carolina, to William R. Maxon, as well as correspondence (ca.120 pieces) between Martin and Porcher, all concerning Walter.
