De Virtutibus Scordii Herbae ("On the Virtues of the Herb Scordium") is a poem consisting of 7 leaves of latin manuscript, describing the plant Scordium, its growing conditions, and its medical applications. While the poem itself is muddled with mythological and classical allusions that obfuscate its botanical contents, it is of interest in its reference to noted 16th century botanist Valerius Cordus (1515–1544), known for his posthumous publications on plants of Germany. Little is known about Mellesinus himself, beyond the fact that he was from Bavaria and was a medical student at the time of writing this manuscript.
