Content Description

This list is titled “An Alphabetical List of all the Plants at Mr. Lee’s Vineyard London” and consists of the Latin and common names of these plants, together with a two-letter coded description, the key to which is in the front of the volume. A note in an unknown hand at the front of the volume reads, “Plants in Mr. Lee’s collection at Hammersmith made out for[?] Mrs. A. Blackburne abt. 1770.”

James Lee (1715–1795) was a gardener at Syon and Whitton in London, England, as well as a nurseryman in partnership with (Lewis?) Kennedy, ca.1745, at The Vineyard, Hammersmith, London.
