John Milton Fogg Jr. (1898–1982) papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of 6 boxes of John Milton Fogg Jr.’s correspondence with scientific colleagues and organizations across the entire span of his career. The collection started in 1973 with a donation from Fogg of his correspondence with Merritt Lyndon Fernald (1873–1950), and grew over a series of donations into 1974 as Fogg continued to find and select series of correspondence with prominent botanists. The collection would grow further starting in 1985, when correspondence began between the Hunt Institute and Mrs. Helen Fogg, who began donating further boxes of correspondence after John Fogg’s death. She continued her late husband's methods of sorting the correspondence and hand-selected materials relating to prominent botanists. This is reflected in the arrangement of the collection, the bulk of which is sorted alphabetically by correspondent. The collection exists in 4 seperate series of correspondence to preserve the manner in which they were received. The collection also contains a folder of Helen Fogg's correspondence.
