Biographical / Historical
The Escuela Agricola Panamericana (EAP) is an agricultural education center located in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It was founded in 1941 by the president of the United Fruit Company, Samuel Zemurray, and was directed by Dr. Wilson Popenoe for the first 15 years of its operation. The school was founded with the stated intention to "address the myriad problems facing agriculture in tropical America", with a mantra of "learning through doing." (quote from Profile of Escuela Agricola Panamericana, found in box 1 folder 1 of this collection). The curriculum in the time period of this collection consisted of a 3 year program, involving both common classroom subjects such as biology and math, as well as hands-on experience with agricultural topics such as animal husbandry, soil management, and bee-keeping. The school still operates today under the name Universidad Zamorano, and more information on their current operations can be found online at their [website](https://zamorano.edu)
