Anonymous descriptions of plants with woodcuts by Dodoens
Scope and Contents
This manuscript consists of 712 numbered pages containing woodcuts trimmed from two works by Rembert Dodoens (1517–1585), accompanied by handwritten botanical and medical notes in French. The woodcuts come from Trium Priorum de Stirpium Historia Commentariorum Imagines (1553) and Posteriorum Trium de Stirpum historia Commentariorum Imagines (1554), which both consist of illustrations and brief notes from Dodoens' earlier work Crŭÿdeboeck. The excerpts have been trimmed for the images, so only sparse fragments of the original text remain. The last 20 pages of the manuscript are an index, comprising a complete herbal. The manuscript is bound in brown calf with a decorated spine.
