Content Description

This collection holds the contents of one notebook, with lists of Maybelle Blos' drawings of South American Cactaceae, done for Paul Clifford Huchison (1924–1997) and Myron Kimnach(1992–2018). Some notes are written by Blos herself, while others are records kept by her employer. There is also a letter written by Leonard Machlis (1915–1976), chairman of the University of California, Berkely botany department, to Thomas Harper Goodsped regarding research funding.

Biographical / Historical

Maybelle Blos (1906–1991) was a scientific illustrator and artist with a specialization in botanical drawings, who studied botany at Santa Rosa Junior College before graduating with a degree in art from University of California, Berkeley in 1926. She worked as illustrator and exhibit designer first at the Museum Division of the National Parks Service at Berkeley, then at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. Her works were published most relevantly in the Cactus and Succulent Journal from 1952 through the 1960s, and in Thomas Harper Goodspeed's (1887–1966) The Genus Nicotiana (1954), among many other publications.
