Content Description
This collection consists of two folders, both containing correspondence with specific botanists. The first is correspondence with Richard Evans Schultes (1915–2001), an ethnobotanist who studied indigenous peoples of the Americas and their use of plants. The second is correspondence with Lyman Bradford Smith (1904–1997), a botanical researcher and curator at the United States National Herbarium in various roles from 1947–1974.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas Henry Gardiner Aitken (1912–2007) was an entomologist who worked primarily in the study of insects as disease vectors. After graduating from University of California, Berkely with a PhD in entomology and parasitology and a few years in the army working to control epidemics, he joined the International Health Division of the Rockefeller Foundation. His career there started in the application of DDT to control the spread of malaria, but widened to general study of insect-vector diseases when he was transfered to the Trinidad Regional Virus Laboratory in 1954.
