Ellen Ann Willmott (1858–1934) was an influential 19th century horticulturist and gardener, known for her extensive gardening efforts at Warley Place, her family home in Essex. Willmott was independently wealthy and thus pursued gardening as her primary occupation, becoming a pioneer of the 'natural' gardening movement that was in vogue at the time. She also funded a great many horticulturists and expeditions, leading to some 200 plants being named in her honor. In 1909 she published Warley Garden in Spring and Summer, a book featuring her skills in photography, as it was fully illustrated with her own photographs of her gardens. Her photography was also featured in other publications of the time, including in The Garden magazine and works by Gertrude Jekyll (1843–1932). Her second and final publication, The Genus Rosa, was published in 25 parts between 1910–1914. She was highly regarded for her contributions to horticulture in her time, with accolades including reception of the RHS Victoria Medal of Honour in its founding year of 1897 and being one of the first 15 female members accepted as fellows of the Linnean Society of London in 1904.
