This collection contains a small amount of the correspondence (1945–1966) of Elmer Yale Dawson (1918–1966), consisting mainly of one letter each written to or from Egil Baardseth (1912-1991), Emmy Backeberg (Mrs. Curt), Jean Feldmann (1905–1978), Cornelis den Hartog (1931–2021), Kan-ichi Inagaki (1908–?), Carl Tore Christian Levring (1913–1982), Victor Wilhelm Lindauer (1888–1964), Florence Perrin (Mrs. G.E.) (?–1952), Toshio Segi, and J. Tokida.

Three undated photos of Dana and Ginger Lamb, with greetings written on them.
Short notes (one manuscript volume, 1963) made while Dawson was traveling in Peru, with reflections on its land, ocean, Andean mountains, and cacti.

Biographical / Historical
Elmer Yale Dawson (1918–1966) was an American botanist, ecologist, and writer, specializing in cactae and algae. He was a professor of biology at the University of Southern California (1956–1964), the research director for the Beaudette Foundation for Biological Research (now the Moss Landing Marine Laboratory) (1958–1962), and the director of the San Diego Natural History Museum (1963–1965). His published writings include How to Know the Cacti (Dubuque, Iowa, W.C. Brown, 1963) and Seashore Plants of California (Berkeley, California, University of California Press, 1982; HI call no. DS70 CA D272SP), which was co-written with Michael S. Foster (1947– ).
