This collection contains a letter (2 November 1896, 3 pages) from Louis F. Henderson (1853–1942) in Moscow, Idaho, to Frederick V. Coville (1867–1937), sending some notes and questions on Henderson’s Idaho collections, listed by specimen number. There are eight additional pages of “Notes on Idaho Plants” (undated); it is uncertain whether these notes originally accompanied the letter.

Biographical / Historical
Louis Forniquet Henderson (1853–1942) was an American botanist known for his extensive field work in the northwestern United States. He became the first professor of botany at the University of Idaho (1893–1911) and founded the university's herbarium. After retiring from his professorship, he worked as the curator of the University of Oregon's herbarium (1924–1939).
