A handwritten letter dated June 17, 1957 from a correspondent known only as "Mary."

Biographical / Historical
Marie Catharine Neal (1889–1965) was the botanist-in-charge of the herbarium at the present-day Bishop Museum, Herbarium Pacificum in Honolulu, Hawaii (1930–1965). Her specializations included Hawaiian marine algae, mosses, and vascular plants. She wrote and published In Honolulu Gardens (Honolulu, Bishop Museum Press, 1929; HI call no. EK110 N342I 929) and In Gardens of Hawaii (Honolulu, Bishop Museum Press, 1965; HI call no. EK110 N342I 965).
